《皆大歡喜》通常與《無事生非》及《第十二夜》并列為莎翁的三大歡慶喜?。╢estive comedy)。本劇有若干常見的莎劇主題,例如:由宮廷城都進(jìn)入原始森林、善惡對比的兩兄弟、女扮男裝等等。 本劇的獨(dú)特點(diǎn)之一是亞登森林,它有些類似俠盜羅賓漢的雪梧森林、圣經(jīng)里的伊甸園,或是文學(xué)傳統(tǒng)的田野雅卡迪(Acardia),象征著理想世界的憧憬及向往。女主角羅莎琳是莎劇中最生動迷人的角色之一,而她女扮男裝后和奧蘭多所發(fā)展的情誼,則引發(fā)了同性戀議題。 本劇在莎士比亞逝世后一直到1740年才開始有演出記錄,之后逐漸成為莎劇的常備劇目。到了20世紀(jì),本劇因?yàn)橥瑫r(shí)呈現(xiàn)純真與嘲諷、浪漫與寫實(shí),而同時(shí)吸引了喜好知識與夢想的觀眾。
