內容概要

這是一部將個人的情感糾葛與一個家族乃至整個民族的痛苦歷史聯系在一起的家史式小說。主人公亞當·威伯生活富足、安逸，但自己小家庭的舒適卻抑制不住他那顆躁動的心，他不顧妻子、兒女的反對，放棄了收入豐厚的醫(yī)生職業(yè)，浪跡天涯，踏進了自己門諾教家族厚重的歷史當中。從此，不安的情感開始了另一種探求。500年彈指一揮間，他發(fā)現靜默的塵世原有一群與自己血脈相連的人。恰如吉普賽式的行者，他們執(zhí)著于堅忍與非攻的操守，流浪在冷漠而善變的塵世，他們曾承受水與火的考驗，亦曾在暴政和戰(zhàn)爭中茍延。他們的心靈之旅原本為尋找夢想的樂土，尋到的卻是宏大歷史中無奈生命的短暫與脆弱。自我放逐的靈魂踏上了返鄉(xiāng)之路，歲月中滌凈的心也放下了曾經的躁動與不安。雖然無人可以逃脫吞噬一切的時間，但他也懂得了，博愛無限的天國會永恒于此岸中最甜蜜的一刻。
