這是一套為全國英語專業(yè)本科一、二年級學生編寫的英語泛讀教材。全套共分為四冊,供第一、第二學年計四個學期使用。
什么是泛讀?應用語言學家的定義是:泛讀就是大量地閱讀。閱讀者對所讀的材料不必面面俱到。泛讀旨在培養(yǎng)學習者良好的閱讀習慣,學習者通過閱讀不斷積累詞匯和語言結構知識,提高對閱讀的興趣(Richards
et al.1985)。
誠然,泛讀的基本意義就是多讀,以增加對目的語的語感,這一點對初級語言水平的學習者十分重要。而對中、高級語言水平的學習者而言,通過閱讀來積累目的語的語言知識依然十分重要,但是他們要學會在一個更高的層次上來習得目的語,要學會總結、歸納文章作者的思想和觀點并與自己的思想和觀點融合在一起,也就是說要學會通過閱讀來總結和發(fā)展自己的觀點,只有這樣學習者才能更好、更有效地習得目的語。
本套教材本著這一編寫宗旨,結合英語專業(yè)本科學生較高的目的語水平,在常規(guī)的閱讀理解、詞匯等練習外,還設計了各種形式與主題相關的討論題讓學習者圍繞文章拓展討論,讓他們將所閱讀的文章與自己的觀點融合在一起,從而更好地掌握所學內容,幫助習得目的語。
本套教材是在“主題為基礎”、“協(xié)作性學習”的原則下編寫的。每個閱讀單元的主題就像一根繩索,將所有閱讀文章有機地串聯在一起。學習者通過閱讀同一主題下各種體裁的文章,可從不同角度深化自己對每個相關主題的理解?!皡f(xié)作性學習”將學習者從傳統(tǒng)的學習模式中解放出來,變被動為主動,提高學習興趣。學習者通過協(xié)作性學習,達成知識共享,學會從多角度看待和理解問題,這樣提出問題和解決問題的能力也得到加強。
