前言

  本教材是根據(jù)《大學(xué)英語教學(xué)大綱(修訂本)》對專業(yè)英語學(xué)習(xí)階段的要求,結(jié)合各校目前的實際情況和教學(xué)計劃安排,農(nóng)業(yè)機(jī)械化及其自動化、機(jī)械設(shè)計制造及其自動化和機(jī)械電子工程等專業(yè)而編寫的。目的是在教師的指導(dǎo)下,通過一定的閱讀量,重點培養(yǎng)學(xué)生閱讀本專業(yè)書刊的能力?! ⑹隹萍純?nèi)容的語言和日常生活用語固然是同一種語言,但科技英語在其詞匯和語言風(fēng)格上畢竟有其特點。科學(xué)技術(shù)本身的多學(xué)科性要求專業(yè)英語與專業(yè)內(nèi)容相互一致。因此,專業(yè)英語(English for Special Science and Technology)和科技英語(EST)在語言特點上雖然是一致的,但是在專業(yè)內(nèi)容上(主要表現(xiàn)在詞匯方面)其覆蓋面又有其特點,同一個單詞在不同的專業(yè)中往往有不同的含義。作為專業(yè)英語重點關(guān)心本專業(yè)的相關(guān)內(nèi)容,目的是以英語為工具獲得本專業(yè)的信息?! ”窘滩墓卜治宀糠?,共16個單元。第一部分為機(jī)械工程基礎(chǔ),包括工程材料及其處理、繪圖、公差、機(jī)械原理、機(jī)械零件、熱加工和成型技術(shù)等。第二部分為機(jī)械加工設(shè)備與技術(shù)。第三部分為計算機(jī)化制造技術(shù)和機(jī)電一體化技術(shù),涉及數(shù)控技術(shù)、工業(yè)機(jī)器人、計算機(jī)輔助設(shè)計與制造、柔性制造和成組技術(shù)等。第四部分為裝配方面的內(nèi)容。第五部分為部分農(nóng)業(yè)機(jī)械方面的內(nèi)容,涉及常用的動力機(jī)械如汽油機(jī)和柴油機(jī),常用的農(nóng)業(yè)機(jī)械如拖拉機(jī)?! ”窘滩膬?nèi)容的選取均為國內(nèi)外報刊、雜志、教材、論著和其他文選,內(nèi)容編排按照學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)專業(yè)知識的過程循序漸進(jìn),有連貫性,英語語言由淺入深,有系統(tǒng)性。每個單元圍繞一個主題(theme)編選課文和練習(xí)題。因課堂學(xué)習(xí)學(xué)時有限,可有針對性地選擇每單元的前面章節(jié)作為重點學(xué)習(xí)內(nèi)容,其余部分可作為課后閱讀材料,以獲得較完整的專業(yè)英語知識。

  Some of these have to do directly with the dimensions, the material, the processing, andthe joining of the elements of the system. Other considerations affect the configuration of thetotal system.  To keep the correct perspective, however, it should be observed that in many design situ-ations the important design considerations are such that no calculations or experiments are nec-essary in order to define an element or system. Students, especially, are often confoundedwhen they run into situations in which it is virtually impossible to make a single calculation andyet an important design decision must be made. These are not extraordinary occurrences at all~they happen every day. Suppose that it is desirable from a sales standpoint——for example, inmedical laboratory machinery——to create an impression of great strength and durability. Thickerparts assembled with larger-than-usual oversize bolts can be used to create a rugged-lookingmachine. Sometimes machines and their parts are designed purely from the standpoint of stylingand nothing else. These points are made here so that you will not be misled into believing thatthere is a rational mathematical approach to every design decision.
