For many years,Jeremy had watched groups of people hire his dad's dive boat and visit the island to scuba dive. Often he would go along for the ride and join in the fun of the day,Six months ago a couple hired the boat to go to the island to dive on the reef.  Theyagreed to take Jeremy along to act as guide and look after the boat while they dived. As always,spare equipment was carried, just in case it was needed.  Everything was going well ——the water was calm and warm and the adults were soon exploring the wonderland below.After half an hour had passed, Jeremy thought he would do a little snorkeling and see if hecould spot the scuba divers returning to the boat as they had only taken half an hour tanks.Nothing prepared him for what he saw! On the sea floor, ten meters below, lay the forms of twopeople, kickrng their legs and with their tanks caught in the tentacles of the tall seaweed thatgrew in the area  They didn't carry a knife and were trapped.  He knew they would run out of airif he didn't go to their rescue.Jeremy was only fourteen and had never scuba dived before. But he had seen the scuba gearused often and had practised in his mind how to use the equipment.  He put on the lead weightbelt, checked his flippers, slipped on the spare air tank and checked the regulator and air level-it was full.  He pulled on his face mask and tumbled over the edge of the boat. As he sank towardthe struggling pair, he reached for his knife to cut the seaweed.You can imagine Jeremy's reception when surfaced and boarded the dive boat.Jeremy is aninstant hero.
