眾所周知,簡.奧斯丁擅長描刻小人物,反派邊角尤其寫得狠絕?!堵芬膊焕猓疑踔烈詾殚喿x的至大樂趣就是旁觀這一班哀怒人生。且不必說曼斯菲爾德莊主貝特倫一家嚴父冷母,兒女驕矜(除愛德蒙一人外),還有個雞犬升仙上躥下跳的諾里斯太太。最初提議收養(yǎng)范妮的,口口聲聲張羅一切的,便是諾姨媽,可小女生一來,她又撇干凈,理由是照料諾里斯先生花費她過多心力,不可能再額外支出。先生故去后,她挪居近旁小宅,有一段心理妙得很,說她以經(jīng)濟更省而竊喜,孀喪不悲反喜,慳吝得夠可怕。這時候,她再次回絕養(yǎng)育范妮之責,原因可巧也涉及“一間屋”,她確實預留,但只供留客,絕不能供范妮長住,因為,她勞心這么多年,身體垮掉,怎堪外擾。諾姨媽的出爾反爾、自私自利、寡情寡義,以及超厚臉皮、超佳自我感覺,在奧斯丁諸臉譜里,可謂登峰造極,說她像女版科林斯先生,好像尤言不及。上文極度中傷范妮,就有她一句:“...but I shall think her a very obstinate, ungrateful girl, if she does not do what her Aunt, and Cousins wish her -- very ungrateful indeed, considering who and what she is. ” 這里兩處名詞首字母大寫,我覺得不是出于專有稱謂,而在她語氣的強橫,心理上的優(yōu)越,末了罵范妮“忘了自己姓甚名誰,算個什么東西” ,如聞其聲,刻薄得直教人后退。這班人坐鎮(zhèn),范妮能不沒入庭院深深、簾幕重重的最深處嗎?人在屋檐下,焉能不低頭,開口想后果,閉嘴察言色,小心翼翼識大體,她性格極韌極屈,不是沒有緣由的。
男女主人公不同于其他任何一本,他們既非一見鐘情,也非見面冤家,一開篇根本不足以激誘男性荷爾蒙。愛德華的心上人并不是范妮,他問她對那克勞福德小姐的想法,奧斯丁寫了相當殘酷的一句:“Having formed her mind and gained her affections, he had a good chance of her thinking like him; though at this period, and on this subject there began now to be some danger of dissimilarity, for he was in a line of admiration of Miss Crawford, which might lead him where Fanny could not follow.” 尤其"having formed her mind",好似死刑,因為心理上已然擁有,了若指掌,愛德蒙不可能立即喜歡范妮,她的感情注定要下地獄走一回。獲取體己共識,恰恰為了樹起另一個真正激起他欲望的挑戰(zhàn),于是對這么輕而易舉的共識(哪怕灼見),他實質(zhì)上選擇了漠視。男人在感情上的獵服欲、征戰(zhàn)欲,新與舊之間明顯拍汰,僅此一句,已經(jīng)血肉分明,刻骨三分。愛德蒙的確也談不上不完美,卻是相當逼真。再到后來他與克勞福德小姐演情侶,各自來東廂找范妮對臺詞,撞個正著,那時候惴惴怯怯的驚喜,完全顧不得旁邊那位泫然欲泣,戲劇化一轉(zhuǎn),潤滑了多么豐富的對沖。再如濫情人克勞福德先生,患愛人拉什沃斯先生,貝特倫姊妹相欺,簡小姐不止懂愛情,更懂人性,在愛里,一切原則讓位,危福自來,她是絕不拉起遮羞布的。寫這么透的人,她再無資格,我倒真好奇誰更妥當了。
好的,記下了,最近回家一趟,忙到飛起,回來又整垛的事,整個人反倒都怏怏了。 ps:小蟲新照好可愛,我不無悲涼地想有這么一人能一心撲在上面真幸福??!我自己現(xiàn)在倒是滿滿的奧斯汀心態(tài)了,回家翻了Pride and Prejudice,又開Persuasion,對人生的悲觀態(tài)度不知怎的又加了兩分。
