內(nèi)容概要

Home Listening(1) Gunslinging (持槍?zhuān)?in America Gunslinging is a social problem in the United States. Sam Walker was not an average American gun owner, for he had no interest in hunting at all. The average gun owner owns at least three guns, but Walker owned only one, which friends persuaded him to buy for the sole purpose of protecting himself and his family in their suburban Houston home. Walker didnt even particularly like guns. He still hadnt known much about his new weapon when his burglar alarm went off one weekday morning last December. His security company notified (通知) him of a break-in. Walker rushed home from work, quietly entered the house, took the gun out from the place where he had left it for safekeeping, and, hearing a noise, moved stealthily up the stairs and opened a closet door. He saw a movement, a figure, and in a split second (一剎那) fired. The smoothly oiled gun worked perfectly, andWalkers aim was true. A body fell to the floor. It was his 16-year-old daughter. She had cut school (逃學(xué)) that day and had hidden in the closet to avoid her father. It wound up (落得……下場(chǎng)) costing her her life.
