前言

  “21世紀(jì)國(guó)際經(jīng)貿(mào)精品教材”是山東人民出版社精心打造的大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)類學(xué)生的系列教科書。出版社的想法是,“這套教材既要成為大學(xué)本科和高職院校經(jīng)濟(jì)類學(xué)生的精品教材,又要成為其他各類人員自學(xué)國(guó)際經(jīng)濟(jì)與貿(mào)易的通俗讀物”。這一要求看似簡(jiǎn)單,其實(shí)是很高的目標(biāo)?! ∩綎|人民出版社的同志委托我牽頭組織教材的編撰事宜,是對(duì)我的信任和重托,我十分感謝他們。但是,說實(shí)話,一開始對(duì)是否接受這一任務(wù),我還是頗為躊躇的。一是因?yàn)楝F(xiàn)在市面上這類教材,雖然質(zhì)量上良莠不齊,但數(shù)量上可謂汗牛充棟,再組織一套這類教材到底有無(wú)必要。二是因?yàn)橐帉懗鲆槐纠碚撔?、?shí)踐性、前沿性、通俗性等等特質(zhì)皆具的教材是一件十分困難的事情,何況還是一套系列教材。三是按目前各高校比較通行的人才評(píng)價(jià)體系,似乎編寫教材是一件“機(jī)會(huì)成本”很高的事情,能否組織起一支優(yōu)秀的學(xué)者隊(duì)伍未可知。  中國(guó)世界經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)會(huì)山東省的三位常務(wù)理事盧新德教授、范愛軍教授、李平教授及山東省各本科院校經(jīng)濟(jì)貿(mào)易類院、系諸位院長(zhǎng)、系主任的積極加盟,使我樹立了信心;特別是近幾年國(guó)際經(jīng)濟(jì)理論的不斷發(fā)展和國(guó)際經(jīng)濟(jì)實(shí)踐的規(guī)則、程序等發(fā)生了很多變化,使我深深感到,把這些最新的理論和實(shí)踐納入教科書,系統(tǒng)的介紹給廣大的莘莘學(xué)子,也是我們這些學(xué)人的責(zé)任?! ∪祟惿鐣?huì)在經(jīng)歷了一個(gè)多世紀(jì)的戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)、危機(jī)、和平與發(fā)展之后,進(jìn)入了以經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化日益發(fā)展和國(guó)際經(jīng)貿(mào)活動(dòng)日益深化為重要特征的新的時(shí)期。一是國(guó)際貿(mào)易成為國(guó)際交往中最活躍的活動(dòng)之一,全球國(guó)際貿(mào)易的增長(zhǎng)速度超過了世界生產(chǎn)的增長(zhǎng)速度。雖然受到金融危機(jī)的影響,2008年全球商品出口仍然增長(zhǎng)了15%達(dá)15.7 8萬(wàn)億美元,服務(wù)出口亦增長(zhǎng)11%達(dá)3.7 3萬(wàn)億美元。國(guó)際貿(mào)易推動(dòng)著市場(chǎng)的國(guó)際化,成為各國(guó)經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展和世界經(jīng)濟(jì)增長(zhǎng)的重要引擎;二是國(guó)際直接投資的迅速增長(zhǎng)。國(guó)際直接投資是生產(chǎn)資本國(guó)際化的實(shí)現(xiàn)形式,體現(xiàn)了資本循環(huán)突破國(guó)界不斷擴(kuò)展的趨勢(shì)。

  UNIT 1 BUSINESS LETTER WRITING  Exchange of information plays an important role in all transactions. A greatdeal of business is conducted through exchange of information. It can be made invarious methods either in speaking or in writing. Compared with oral communica-tion, written forms can secure more complete understanding between the partiesconcerned and be kept permanently as a record of each transaction. There aremany types of written communication such as letters, memos, reports, tele-grams, telexes, etc. Business letters are the principle means used by firms tokeep in touch with their trading partners. Effective business letter writers canhelp increase their companys sales and profits by establishing good relations withother companies. In addition, proficiency in business letter writing may help thewriter gain more self-confidence and more success in business.  Section 1 Layout of Business Letters  When writing a business letter, you need to follow a standardized layout.Generally speaking, a business letter should consist of the following seven princi-pal parts: the letter-head, date, inside name and address, salutation, body of aletter, complimentary close, and signature. But depending on the type of the let-ter, some other elements may be included such as reference No. , attention line,subject, enclosure, carbon copy, and postscript.  1. Principal Parts  ( 1 )Letter-head  Letter-head is usually placed on the top of a letter. It gives information aboutthe writers company——name, postal address, telephone number, telegraphic andtelex addresses, fax number, website, and even the email address.
